The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Area, Hon. Felix Akposi, has applauded the Senator representing Cross River South, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, for facilitating the reconstruction of key road projects by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Cross River State.

Akposi, who received the Senate Committee on NDDC during its inspection tour on Tuesday, said the projects would ease vehicular movement, boost economic development, and open up rural communities that had long suffered due to bad roads.

“The people of Akamkpa are deeply grateful to Senator Ekpenyong and the NDDC. For many years, bad roads have hindered trade, made travel difficult, and cut off our communities. Today, with these projects, there is renewed hope for growth and development,” Akposi stated.

The Senate Committee on NDDC, led by Senator Ekpenyong, inspected three major ongoing projects handled by Messers Faith Plant Nig. Ltd. They include the 20-kilometre Okomita–Uyanga–Ehom Road spanning Akamkpa and Biase LGAs, the 1.5-kilometre Idundu Junction–Idundu Bridge Road in Akpabuyo LGA, and the 10.8-kilometre Aking–Osomba Road in Akamkpa LGA.

Speaking during the visit, Senator Ekpenyong described the projects as “a practical demonstration of the NDDC’s renewed commitment to infrastructural development in the Niger Delta.” He assured that the 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio, would continue to provide legislative backing for intervention projects that directly impact the lives of the people.

Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to quality delivery, stressing that the roads would improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities while driving socio-economic growth. “We are committed to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that these roads are completed to the highest standards,” Ogbuku said.

The inspection also had in attendance the Executive Director Projects of NDDC, Obong Victor Antai, members of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing Akamkpa Constituencies 1 and 2, Hon. Okon Owuna and Hon. Linus Bassey, as well as councillors from host communities.
