The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to upholding the rule of law and deepening collaboration with the judiciary to ensure efficient justice delivery in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of the High Court of the FCT, Hon. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, at the FCT High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the Police Commissioner described the relationship between the Police and the Judiciary as critical to maintaining law and order and strengthening public confidence in the nation’s criminal justice system.

CP Sanusi thanked the Chief Judge for receiving him and commended the cordial working relationship that has existed between the FCT Police Command and the High Court. He stressed that effective policing can only thrive when supported by a responsive judicial system.

During the meeting, the Commissioner highlighted operational challenges confronting investigative policing in the FCT, particularly the need for the timely issuance of judicial authorizations such as search warrants, bench warrants, and other court orders that are essential for prompt investigations, effective law enforcement, and successful prosecution of criminal cases.

He also drew attention to delays in the prosecution of some criminal cases, noting that prolonged court proceedings often result in suspects remaining in police custody for extended periods, thereby contributing to congestion in detention facilities.

Responding, the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, welcomed the Police Commissioner and his delegation, describing CP Sanusi’s appointment as both timely and well deserved. He expressed confidence that the Commissioner’s wealth of professional experience would further strengthen security and improve the administration of justice across the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Yusuf assured the Police Commissioner of the Judiciary’s continued support in promoting speedy and effective justice delivery. He acknowledged the concerns raised during the meeting and pledged to sustain institutional cooperation between both arms of the criminal justice system.

The Chief Judge also highlighted areas requiring the attention of the Police Command and emphasized the importance of maintaining the longstanding partnership between the Judiciary and the Nigeria Police Force in the interest of justice and public safety.

The visit ended on a cordial note with the exchange of commemorative gifts and group photographs, underscoring the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthening the rule of law, enhancing criminal justice administration, and building greater public confidence in the justice system.
