Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has once again demonstrated her deep commitment to the welfare and development of the Nigerian girl child through the nationwide distribution of sanitary pads to schoolgirls across the country.

The initiative, which aligns with her Renewed Hope Agenda for women and youth empowerment, aims to promote menstrual hygiene, reduce school absenteeism among female students, and support adolescent girls’ confidence and wellbeing.
The distribution exercise, carried out simultaneously in various states, has received wide commendation from students, teachers, and parents. Many described the gesture as timely, thoughtful, and motherly, noting that the rising cost of sanitary products has made it difficult for many young girls to maintain proper menstrual hygiene.

Speaking during one of the flag-off ceremonies, representatives of the First Lady emphasized that Senator Tinubu’s intervention goes beyond charity—it is part of a larger vision to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for young girls to thrive.
“We believe that no girl should miss school or feel ashamed during her period. This effort is about dignity, empowerment, and giving our girls equal opportunities,” one of the coordinators stated.
Nigerian students across the country have expressed heartfelt appreciation to the First Lady, describing her as a true mother of the nation and an icon of humanity whose compassion continues to touch lives.
Observers say the initiative will not only improve girls’ health and education outcomes but also encourage other well-meaning Nigerians and organizations to support girl-child empowerment and menstrual hygiene advocacy.
