Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed deep sympathy to victims of the recent fire incident at the Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano
The governor also condoled with families of the 22 people who lost their lives in a road accident involving the state’s sports delegation.

Speaking from Mina, Saudi Arabia, where he is overseeing the welfare of Kano pilgrims participating in the 2025 Hajj, the governor described both incidents as tragic and heartbreaking moments for the state.
He offered words of comfort to the victims and assured them of government support.
The fire, which occurred on Saturday, June 6, during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, razed over 300 shops at the popular Farm Centre GSM Market in Tarauni Local Government Area.
Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in the blaze, which eyewitnesses say started around 2:00 PM.
In a separate development, the governor also mourned the death of 22 athletes, coaches, and officials from Kano State who died in a fatal road crash while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.
The accident, which occurred along the Kano–Zaria highway, has been attributed to fatigue and overspeeding.
Governor Yusuf, in an emotional message, described the loss as a dark and painful moment in Kano’s history.
He declared Monday, June 2, as a work-free day in honor of the deceased and announced a ₦1 million compensation package and food support for each of the bereaved families.
He also called for urgent review of road safety measures, particularly during long-distance travel involving government teams and delegations.
He urged the people of Kano to offer prayers for the souls of the departed and to support the affected families in every possible way.
The governor emphasized the need for unity, compassion, and a stronger commitment to public safety to prevent future tragedies of this nature.
