The Kano State Government has enlisted the support of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to monitor the distribution of subsidised fertiliser across the state, as part of efforts to ensure transparency and prevent diversion.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the directive while flagging off the distribution of 150 truckloads of subsidised fertiliser to farmers across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the anti-graft agencies have been mandated to oversee the exercise to ensure that the fertiliser reaches genuine farmers and that cases of hoarding, diversion and other sharp practices are eliminated.
Governor Yusuf charged the 44 local government chairmen to conduct the distribution exercise with honesty, fairness and accountability, stressing that the intervention is designed to ease the burden of farming, boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security across the state.
The governor warned that any individual or group found diverting the subsidised fertiliser or undermining the programme would face the full weight of the law.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, Governor Yusuf described agriculture as a critical pillar of Kano State’s economy and reiterated his resolve to support farmers with policies and programmes that will enhance food production and improve livelihoods.
The fertiliser distribution initiative forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to empower farmers, increase crop yields and reinforce sustainable agricultural development across Kano State.
