Kano State Government Partners with Investors to Boost Gold Mining and Trading

The Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir, is set to partner with licensed miners and investors to harness the state’s natural resources and boost gold mining and trading activities. Commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, Alhaji Safiyanu Hamza Kachako, made this known during a visit to the Gold Souk in Kumbotso Local Government Area.

According to a statement signed by Adamu Ibrahim Dabo, ANIPR, MNGE, Director Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, Kano State, “The Ministry is committed to ensuring that the Gold Souk becomes a hub for gold refining and trading in the northern states, and we will work assiduously with all stakeholders to achieve this goal.”

The Gold Souk, built by the Federal Government in collaboration with the State Government, will serve as a center for gold refining and trading in the northern states. Kachako expressed commitment to ensuring the facility becomes operational, pledging to visit the Federal Ministry of Solid Mineral Resources in Abuja.

The Ministry aims to reorganize and refocus mining activities to enhance state security, prevent environmental degradation, improve revenue generation, and provide employment opportunities. The commissioner also expressed concern over land encroachment at the Gold Souk premises and ordered an investigation to address the issue amicably.
