The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) calls on all its members resident in Abuja to turn out in full force for the Nigeria Women Solidarity March in support of the Special Seats Bill (HB1349), scheduled to hold:
Monday, 16th February 2026
7:30am National Assembly, Abuja
This is not a ceremonial walk.
It is a democratic demand.

For too long, Nigerian women have remained severely underrepresented in legislative chambers across the country. Nigeria continues to rank among the lowest in Africa in women’s political representation …a reality that is both unacceptable and indefensible in a modern democracy.
The Special Seats Bill is a corrective mechanism. It is a constitutional pathway toward inclusion. It is a necessary intervention to address systemic barriers that have deliberately excluded women from power.
NAWOJ therefore sends a clear message to Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members of the House of Representatives:
History is watching.
Nigerian women are watching.
The world is watching.
A vote against this Bill is a vote against equity.
A vote against this Bill is a vote against inclusive democracy.
A vote against this Bill is a vote to sustain structural injustice.
Lawmakers must rise above partisan interests and demonstrate true statesmanship by supporting and passing the Special Seats Bill without dilution or delay.
As the umbrella body of women journalists in Nigeria, NAWOJ will continue to amplify the voices of women, hold leaders accountable, and spotlight every legislative action taken on this Bill.
We call on all NAWOJ members resident in Abuja to:
■Stand boldly in solidarity
■Lend your professional and moral voices to this cause
■Demonstrate that women will no longer be silent observers in decisions that shape their future
This march is peaceful.
It is lawful.
It is powerful.
Let us show that Nigerian women are organized, determined, and united.
Let us be visible.
Let us be heard.
Let us make it clear that inclusion is non-negotiable.
Please dress in comfortable shoes.
The statement was jointly signed by Aishatu Ibrahim National Chairperson
NAWOJ and Comrade Wasilah Ladan,
National Secretary, NAWOJ
