NAWOJ Hails National Auditor Jemila Abubakar on Election as President of WAANSA Nigeria

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated its National Auditor and Assistant Director at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Jemila Abubakar, on her election as President of the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA) Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, the Association described Abubakar’s emergence as a fitting recognition of her years of exemplary service, professional excellence, and unwavering commitment to peacebuilding, gender advocacy, and national development.

The Association noted that WAANSA Nigeria is a leading coalition of civil society organisations dedicated to combating the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, preventing gun violence, addressing drug abuse, tackling gender-based violence, and promoting peace and security across the country.

NAWOJ said it is proud that one of its National Executive members has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading such a strategic organisation, expressing confidence that Jemila Abubakar’s experience, integrity, and leadership will further strengthen WAANSA Nigeria’s advocacy and impact.

It also commended its members, led by the National Chairperson for their solidarity and support during the WAANSA Nigeria General Assembly and election. The Association noted that the presence of the NAWOJ delegation underscored its commitment to celebrating the achievements of its members and strengthening partnerships with organisations working to promote peace, security, and sustainable development in Nigeria.

The Association wished the newly elected WAANSA Nigeria President a successful and impactful tenure and reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the organisation in advancing peace, security, and sustainable development through responsible journalism and public enlightenment.
