The Proactive Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon Aliyu Mukhtar Betara, OON, has assured the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ ) of his personal commitment to build a befitting National Secretariat for the association in Abuja.

Hon. Betara gave this assurance when he received a delegation of NAWOJ, led by its National Chairperson, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, on a courtesy visit to his office.
Responding to NAWOJ’s request for support towards the development of its newly secured land in Lugbe, Abuja, the lawmaker pledged to take full responsibility for the project while also assuring that he would engage the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to ensure the project receives the necessary backing.
“I will build it for you. I assure you, I will personally ensure that NAWOJ has a befitting national secretariat,” Betara declared.

He added, “I will discuss with the Minister and ensure that this is taken up. I will talk to him so that he will give the necessary support and we can move this forward.”
Hon. Betara also advised the association’s leadership to ensure all necessary documentation is in place ahead of engagements, noting that proper preparation would facilitate faster approvals and implementation.

The lawmaker further endorsed the upcoming Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026, an initiative of NAWOJ in collaboration with AIT, aimed at celebrating courage, passion, loyalty, commitment, and sacrifice in national security service. He commended the initiative and expressed support for its objectives, describing it as timely and impactful.
The lawmaker commended NAWOJ for its role in promoting professional journalism and amplifying the voices of women across the country, while expressing appreciation for the association’s recognition of his contributions to constituency development and women empowerment.

Earlier, the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, said the visit was to formally notify Hon. Betara of his nomination for an award in recognition of his impactful projects, particularly in empowering women and youths.
She also informed him of the association’s recent acquisition of a Certificate of Occupancy for land in Lugbe designated for the construction of a national secretariat.

In his remarks, Hon. Betara expressed gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed his willingness to support NAWOJ, pledging continued collaboration with the association.
The visit highlights growing synergy between policymakers and the media in advancing national development and strengthening institutional capacity for women in journalism.
