I don’t hold brief for the executive governor of Osun State, and neither am I pretending to do so. For the sake of public sanity so we are not oversaturated with half-cooked and lazy commentaries, I will attempt to highlight some of the achievements of Governor Adeleke’s regime. No prisoner taken. Just public good.
Based on the information available publicly from the databases of NBS, Statistical, and the World Bank, here are a few novel achievements by the government of Osun State in the last 4 years. They are not only publicly available, they’re as well, verifiable, measurable, and impactful.
Osun State recorded IGR growth of 97.3% in 2024. Osun’s internally generated revenue jumped from N27.7bn to N54.7bn in 2024. This was through tax-harmonization, digitalisation, and blocking of leakages without increasing tax.
Federal Debt Management Office (DMO) has confirmed on their website and through reports that Osun reduced its debt by over 45% and ranked 3rd among 36 states for debt reduction. One of a few states without new burrowing for current projects.
Osun scored 100% and emerged 1st in BudgIT Q3 2025 State Fiscal Transparency League. Highest performance in over a decade.
Osun cleared salary and pension arrears owed since January 2016. N4.3bn gratuities to pensioners paid between December 2022 and now. Osun enrolled 29,000 pensioners in Osun Health Insurance Scheme.
Osun, according to World Bank’s reports, has 40-45% reduction in infrastructure deficit since Governor Adeleke became governor. This is a huge gap closure not common in this part of the world.
In National Exam Rating, Osun moved from 33rd position in 2022 to 7th position nationally. 99 secondary schools were rehabilitated, and 6 technical colleges restarted.
Osun domesticated Nigeria Startup Act, and one of only few states to complete Google Mapping for the entire state. Osun’s E-Procurement portal has been cited as a model for good governance and transparency in Nigeria by BudgIT.
According to NBS data, Osun poverty rate 8.52% is the 3rd lowest in Nigeria.
From unemployment figures to life expectancy rates and mortality rates, Osun rates as one of the best in Nigeria. These data are publicly accessible.
