The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State on Tuesday declared Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii winner of its governorship primary election conducted across the 13 local government areas of the state ahead of the 2027 general election.

Odii, who emerged as the sole aspirant in the exercise monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), secured a total of 8,281 votes to clinch the party’s governorship ticket.

Declaring the result at the PDP collation centre in Abakaliki, chairman of the primary election committee, Lekon Rotimi (Dr.), said the exercise was peaceful and transparent.

According to him, “From the 13 local government areas of the state, we recorded a total vote of 8,281 for the sole candidate of the PDP governorship primary.

“After careful collation and verification of results from all the local government areas, I hereby declare Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii winner of the PDP governorship primary election in Ebonyi State.”

Speaking after the exercise, the state chairman of the party, Chukwuma Igwe, described the primary as peaceful and consensus-driven, noting that the party remained united in the state.

He said the PDP had continued to conduct its affairs peacefully, adding that the party was prepared for future political battles in the state.

“We have carried out all our primaries by consensus because PDP remains a peaceful family in Ebonyi State. We are focused and united and soon the people will see the direction we are going,” Igwe stated.

Addressing party supporters shortly after his declaration, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and vowed to pursue what he described as the liberation and development of Ebonyi State.

Odii, who was also the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election, accused the current administration of turning governance into what he termed a “personal family business,” insisting that the state deserved better leadership.

“Ebonyi can never become a personal family business. We are here for the rescue of our dear state,” he said.

The PDP candidate further promised to enthrone good governance, improve workers’ welfare, strengthen the economy and ensure inclusive development across the state.

“It is time to bring governance that will benefit both the born and unborn children, improve the welfare of civil servants, teachers and ordinary citizens, and create a better economy for Ebonyi people,” Odii added.

He expressed confidence in the chances of the PDP in the 2027 governorship election, assuring supporters that the party was prepared to challenge the status quo in the state.
