The Ebonyi State Police Command has foiled a ₦50 million kidnapping plot with the successful rescue of a six-year-old girl abducted in Abakaliki and the arrest of two suspects linked to the crime.
The incident occurred on January 6, 2026, when the child was reportedly abducted from her mother’s shop at Onuebonyi area of Abakaliki by suspects who posed as customers. After the abduction, the suspects contacted the family and demanded a ransom of fifty million naira (₦50 million) for the child’s release.

Acting promptly on the report, operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad launched a coordinated, intelligence-driven investigation that led them to the kidnappers’ hideout at Agogboriga Layout, Abakaliki. The operation resulted in the safe rescue of the child, who was unharmed.
Two male suspects, identified as Okafor Ofubuike (23) and Chisom Daniel (23), were arrested during the operation. They are currently in police custody and undergoing investigation, after which they will be charged to court.
