Those Waiting for Wike’s Political Downfall Will Wait Forever – Aide

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Mr. Lere Olayinka, has responded to recent remarks by former Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Sam Egwu, stating that those anticipating Wike’s political downfall will be disappointed.

Dr. Egwu had reportedly said that Wike was “living on borrowed time” and that his political influence would soon wane. In reaction, Olayinka dismissed the statement as “a product of envy and frustration,” asserting that Wike’s political trajectory has been defined by hard work, strategic acumen, and the grace of God—not political handouts.

“Unlike Egwu, who has enjoyed a career largely propped up by political patronage, Wike’s rise is rooted in personal dedication, resilience, and results,” Olayinka said.

He further described Egwu’s remarks as unfortunate, stating: “People who have mismanaged their own political relevance often assume others will suffer the same fate. Dr. Egwu’s statement is nothing short of a projection of personal regrets.”

Olayinka also addressed ongoing concerns within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly criticisms surrounding Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s position as National Secretary. He emphasized that Anyanwu remains the legitimate officeholder and cautioned against divisive tactics by individuals who underperformed in the 2023 general elections.

“It is ironic that figures who failed to secure meaningful electoral victories for the PDP are the loudest voices threatening the party’s unity. The constitution of the PDP is clear, and any attempt to undermine it will only weaken the party,” he added.

Responding to Dr. Egwu’s challenge to Wike to facilitate the reinstatement of the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, Olayinka dismissed the comment as “beer parlor talk.”

“That a former senator would make such a suggestion is preposterous. The powers to reinstate a governor lie with constitutional institutions—not the Minister of the FCT. Such statements reflect a troubling misunderstanding of governance and reveal deep-seated resentment toward Wike’s political success,” he said.

Olayinka concluded by emphasizing that no amount of envy or political scheming can halt Wike’s momentum.

“Those waiting for Wike’s downfall will wait in vain,” he declared.
