An international non-governmental organisation (NGO), Unique Sisters of Substance, based in the United States of America, has donated ₦2 million to the Edu family in Cross River State to support their recovery from a devastating flood that claimed the lives of several of their children.
The donation, made on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, is aimed at helping the surviving members of the family rebuild their lives, return the remaining children to school and establish a small business to provide a source of livelihood.

The organisation, powered by its President, Sister Veronica Okon, who hails from Cross River State, and Vice President, Sister Iniobong Ikpe, from Akwa Ibom State, said the intervention was inspired by the family’s tragic experience and the need to provide practical support during its difficult moment.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its spokesperson, Ambassador Evelyn, said the organisation learnt about the family’s ordeal through a Facebook post and immediately began efforts to establish contact with the victims and ascertain their circumstances.
According to her, although the flood affected several families in Cross River State, the Edu family attracted particular attention because of the devastating loss of lives among its children.
She described the tragedy as heartbreaking, expressing condolences over the children who lost their lives and praying for their souls to rest in peace.
Ambassador Evelyn also offered prayers for the family’s surviving children, particularly the first daughter, Blessing Edu, expressing hope that she would one day marry and have children of her own.
From Social Media Appeal to Humanitarian Intervention
Recounting how the organisation responded to the family’s plight, Ambassador Evelyn explained that members were deeply moved after coming across the account of the tragedy on social media.
She said the sisters considered how best they could assist and eventually mobilised resources among themselves to raise the ₦2 million donation.
The spokesperson explained that the financial assistance was intended to give the family a fresh start rather than merely provide temporary relief.
She encouraged Mr Kingsley Edu to use the money judiciously to support the education of his surviving children and establish a small business that could help the family regain some measure of financial stability.
Ambassador Evelyn further urged him to remain accessible and maintain contact with those who could facilitate additional humanitarian assistance, noting that other individuals and organisations might be willing to support the family as its story reaches a wider audience.
She hinted that the intervention might not be the end of the organisation’s efforts, expressing hope that further assistance could be extended to the family.
A Call for Community Support and Rebuilding
The spokesperson also made a light-hearted appeal for the family to invest in its community when it eventually receives further support, rather than relocating the proceeds of any assistance to Akwa Ibom State.
She stressed that the assistance came from concerned sisters who wanted to see the family recover from its devastating experience.
Her remarks underscored the importance of using humanitarian support to rebuild livelihoods and strengthen communities affected by natural disasters.
During the engagement, the village chief reportedly outlined issues surrounding the family’s relocation and the arrangements that would be necessary to facilitate the process.
The intervention also drew attention to the sacrifices made by members of the organisation, who contributed towards raising the funds despite their individual commitments and personal needs.
Ambassador Evelyn called for prayers for the women, acknowledging those who reportedly gave up some personal luxuries to ensure that the Edu family received the financial support.
Edu Family Expresses Gratitude
Responding to the donation, Mr Kingsley Edu and his daughter, Blessing Edu, expressed profound gratitude to the members of Unique Sisters of Substance for standing by them during one of the most painful periods of their lives.
The visibly grateful beneficiaries prayed for God’s blessings upon the women, asking that none of them should experience lack or hardship for their act of kindness.
They also prayed that the contributors would be remembered in the Kingdom of Heaven for their compassion and generosity.
Mr Edu, while expressing appreciation for the support, disclosed that he had maintained regular contact with Kaa Kemesee.
The donation represents a significant gesture of solidarity for a family struggling to recover from the devastating consequences of flooding and the loss of loved ones.
