As Nigeria prepares to host the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) 2025, the country is gearing up to tackle some of the region’s most pressing economic challenges. Scheduled to take place from June 20 to 21, 2025, at the Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC), the summit promises to be a game-changer for West Africa’s economic future.

Addressing Diplomatic Correspondents at Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, stated that
“WAES 2025 aims to establish a harmonized trade policy framework, mobilize resources for critical infrastructure, and promote inclusive economic growth. The summit will feature a range of activities, including a Presidential Roundtable and CEO Forum, the WAES Deal Room, and a West Africa Business Expo”.
Amb Tuggar explained that the summit’s focus on empowering the private sector is a welcome development. By providing a platform for business-to-government and business-to-business transactions, WAES 2025 can help unlock new opportunities for economic growth and development.
A Step Towards Regional Integration
Nigeria’s hosting of WAES 2025 is a significant step towards regional integration. The summit aligns with the ECOWAS vision of a borderless, peaceful, and economically integrated West Africa, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
What to Expect
- High-level dialogue between Heads of State and business leaders
- Landmark investment deals across strategic sectors
- Exhibition of investment-ready SMEs and regional development projects
- Showcase of the region’s rich creative energy and ingenuity of youth
With WAES 2025, Nigeria is poised to play a leading role in shaping the economic future of West Africa. The summit is an opportunity for the region to come together and address common challenges, and for Nigeria to demonstrate its commitment to regional integration and economic development.
This maiden edition opens new vista for Nigeria and other Members of ECOWAS.
