Subject: Urgent Request for International Attention and Humanitarian Intervention in Amasiri Community, Nigeria
We, the concerned sons and daughters of Amasiri, Nigeria, both at home and in the diaspora, respectfully bring to your urgent attention the deteriorating humanitarian and human rights situation in our community, which now requires immediate international observation and intervention.

Amasiri, a peaceful and law-abiding community in southeastern Nigeria, is currently experiencing severe social disruption, widespread fear, and conditions indicative of a developing humanitarian crisis.

Situation Overview
Recent developments within the community have resulted in:

  • A climate of fear, panic, and psychological trauma among residents
  • The shutdown of economic and social activities
  • The closure of all schools, leaving thousands of children without access to education
  • Children reportedly in hiding due to security concerns
  • Pupils unable to register for critical examinations, including Common Entrance
  • The reported arrest and removal of traditional community leaders, creating a breakdown in local governance and conflict-management structures
  • The removal of political representatives from the community, deepening feelings of exclusion and instability
  • Most critically, credible reports and widespread allegations of civilian deaths, injuries, and maiming resulting from ongoing security operations
These developments have left vulnerable groups—particularly women, children, the elderly, and low-income families—exposed to heightened risk, trauma, and uncertainty.
    Human Rights and Humanitarian Concerns
The situation raises serious concerns regarding:
. The Right to Life and Security of Person
    . The Right to Education
. The Protection of Civilians in Security Operations
. The Rights of Children under the Convention on the Rights of the Child
. Protection from excessive use of force and collective punishment
. Access to humanitarian assistance and psychosocial support
The prolonged closure of schools and disruption of children’s education further raises urgent child protection concerns with potential long-term developmental consequences.
Our Urgent Requests to the International Community
    We respectfully call for:
  1. Independent International Monitoring
Deployment or support for independent human rights monitoring to assess the situation on ground and ensure transparency and accountability.
  2. Humanitarian Needs Assessment
An urgent humanitarian assessment to determine the needs of affected residents, including medical care, trauma support, and relief assistance.
  3. Protection Advocacy
International engagement with relevant Nigerian authorities to ensure that all security operations fully comply with international human rights and humanitarian standards.
  4. Child Protection Intervention
Urgent attention to the educational disruption affecting children, including advocacy for the reopening of schools and protection of access to education.
  5. Support for Peaceful Resolution
Encouragement of dialogue, mediation, and conflict de-escalation mechanisms to prevent further harm to civilians.
    A Call for Preventive Action
This appeal is not intended to internationalize conflict unnecessarily, but to prevent the escalation of a humanitarian situation that, if left unaddressed, may result in further civilian harm, long-term social instability, and deepening trauma within the community.
The people of Amasiri remain committed to peace, lawful conduct, and constructive engagement. However, the current conditions have overwhelmed local coping mechanisms and require urgent attention.
Early international observation and humanitarian engagement at this stage will help prevent further deterioration, protect vulnerable populations, and support a peaceful and rights-based resolution.
We respectfully appeal to the global community to give urgent attention to this situation in the interest of human dignity, child protection, civilian safety, and the prevention of avoidable suffering.
    With hope and urgent expectation,
Concerned Sons and Daughters of Amasiri
(On behalf of peace-loving residents at home and in the diaspora)
