Wike Inspects Gishiri, Life Camp Road Projects : Promises Compensation

In continuation of its routine inspection, the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike has given his assurance to compensate legal owners of structures affected by ongoing road projects in Gishiri and other areas.

Wike who gave the assurance in Abuja after inspection of projects in Judges Quarters and lifecamp axis, said the funds for compensation is available.

According to Wike, payments for compensation of affected structures on the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) to Wasa District and the Life Camp to Dei-Dei road projects have been processed, while that of Gishiri village is expected to be concluded by the end of the week.

“The Department of Resettlement and Compensation has said that the one in the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) going to Wasa has been done. Where we are standing now, the Life Camp to Dei-Dei road project has been done.

“Then, the one at Gishiri, they are talking about 500 meters. We believe that before the end of the week, we will have settled that area. We are already paying the compensation. The funds have been made available”.

The Minister expressed satisfaction on the level of work done so far at the sites inspected, with optimism that the projects would be delivered for commissioning by the end of May 2025.

“I am quite impressed with the speed of work by the various contractors, particularly those carrying out road construction, Julius Berger, CGC, as we saw. Quite impressive. I believe that we are going to meet up like they promised by May this year.

“Its really amazing with the level they have gotten to. I have always said that with proper management of funds, contractors are willing to put in their best. When they see that funds are coming, they will not hesitate to work”.Wike said.

Responding to question on waste management , Wike explained that the FCTA had began selection process for competent contractors that could effectively handle waste management services in Satellite Towns.

“We are almost done with the selection of the contractors that will be carrying out the waste management. I believe in the next one week, we will have selected those who are competent and we think can deliver.”

The FCT Minister pointed out that the steady progress in the execution of the numerous ongoing projects at the same time unhindered, was an indication that the FCT Administration is judiciously utilizing available funds on people oriented projects.

The minister also used the medium to thank residents of the local communities for their cooperation and support giving to the contractors.
