90 Days On, Amasiri Still Locked Down : Which Way Forward, Governor Nwifuru?

By Princess Joy Omagha Idam, A Concerned Citizen

Dear Gov Nwifuru,

Ninety days have passed, yet Amasiri remains under restrictions that continue to disrupt daily life, deepen hardship, and strain the resilience of its people. What was expected to be a temporary security measure has lingered, leaving residents in uncertainty and distress.

The continued curfew has taken a heavy toll. Schools remain shut, denying children access to education. Hospitals and healthcare services are not operational, placing vulnerable lives at risk. Economic activities have slowed to a near halt, affecting livelihoods and worsening the socio-economic condition of families. Farming season is here, Amasiri is not participating.

It is time to urgently reassess the situation.
We respectfully call on you, Governor Francis Nwifuru to take decisive steps toward restoring normalcy in Amasiri. The people are asking for:

Immediate review and lifting of the curfew to allow lawful daily activities to resume
Reopening of schools and healthcare facilities to safeguard the future and well-being of residents
Safe return of displaced indigenes who were forced to flee their homes
Revise detentions, release and reinstate our traditional rulers, release coordinator Amasiri, and all the youth currently in detention.

Amasiri has endured significant disruption. At this stage, healing, dialogue, compensation and restoration should take precedence. Lasting peace is built not only on enforcement, but on trust, inclusion, and respect for lawful processes.

Your Excellency, while we appreciate the Greek Gift, we believe that talking politics while Amasiri remains under lock, our Ezeogos and others in detention, amounts to toying with the well-being and emotions of an entire race and this we regard grossly insensitive, Sir.

We urge the state government to act with urgency and compassion to bring relief to the people and set Amasiri on the path to recovery. Your actions hurt Amasiri badly.

Your Excellency, the same way you clamped down on Amasiri via a broadcast, we call on you to kindly do same and set Amasiri free. We have a lot of rebuilding and healing to do as a people. We have undergone trauma this 90 days. The time to restore normalcy in Amasiri is now Sir.

Finally Your Excellency, the People of Amasiri, are not bad, or troublesome as painted, we are a Peaceful Loving People, whose hospitality is second to none in the state. We open our doors to all and are only Protecting Our Common Wealth, which is our ancestral Lands and Place. We are a Lovely and Loving People.

It’s within your Powers as Governor to fix all that your declaration of January 29th 2026 damaged in Amasiri. We have lost Countless Lives, we await you to come Pacify my people. To compensate families who lost loved ones, to fix, rebuild and reintegrate Amasiri.

We are your people. Amasiri remains the golden Fleece of Ebonyi State. Amasiri has alot to offer the State. My people have a stake in Ebonyi as the community with the largest Internally Generated Revenue. We are not asking for too much. We only ask that normalcy be restored in Amasiri. Thanks for your consideration.
