The Nigerian Army has commended the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) for its consistent and professional coverage of military activities, highlighting the group’s growing influence in shaping balanced national security narratives.

Speaking in Abuja, Army Spokesperson, Colonel Anele, praised NAWOJ’s dedication and resilience, noting its vital role in promoting responsible journalism, particularly in reporting defense and security matters.

She also lauded the association’s upcoming flagship event, the Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC Summit 2026), describing it as a bold initiative aimed at strengthening women’s participation in security, peace-building, and national development.

According to her, the summit is a pioneering platform—potentially the first of its kind in Africa—that will bring together security experts, policymakers, and women leaders to exchange ideas and advance inclusive security governance.

Colonel Anele emphasized that NAWOJ’s focus on security issues through a gender lens is both timely and strategic, adding that the summit is expected to enrich national discourse and influence policy direction.

While commending the association, she also raised concerns over the spread of unverified reports, particularly on social media, urging NAWOJ to intensify efforts toward promoting accuracy and accountability within the media space.

Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s support for credible partnerships, Anele encouraged continued collaboration between the military, media, and civil society to strengthen national unity and development.

The WINSEC Summit 2026 is expected to attract participants from across Nigeria and beyond, fostering conversations that could redefine women’s role in the country’s evolving security architecture.
