Cross River Sets Up Support Centres to Boost Voter Registration Ahead of 2027

The Cross River State Government has launched support centres across the eighteen local government areas to strengthen the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and ensure wider participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, who disclosed this during the flag-off of the public sensitisation campaign in Calabar, said the initiative aligns with the state’s goal of delivering six million votes for the All Progressives Congress in the next elections.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Hon. Dunamis Archibong, Ironbar explained that the project had already commenced in the seven local government areas of the Southern Senatorial District and would soon extend to the central and northern zones.

He noted that two support centres have been established in each local government area to complement INEC’s efforts and ensure residents in remote communities are captured during registration.

According to him, the initiative reflects Governor Bassey Otu’s determination to promote inclusive participation, adding that political appointees and stakeholders must mobilise eligible citizens to register.

“Our governor has introduced support centres into the CVR process for the first time to ensure no eligible voter is left out,” Ironbar said.

In his remarks, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation (South), Comrade Ekpo Tete, urged young people to take the lead in the campaign, stressing that no one can support Governor Otu or President Tinubu’s re-election without a Permanent Voter Card.

He appealed to the youths to shun anti-party tendencies and recognise the value of their PVCs, which he described as their power and a key to national development.
