In an era where social media can elevate reputations or dismantle them within hours, Mr. Kelvin Onyiaeze finds himself at the center of a growing digital controversy that underscores the fragile line between influence and accountability. And gives influencer Martin Otse, VDM, 48 hours to do retraction.

From Abuja, the North American-Africa Coalition (NACA), alongside Onyiaeze, addressing a World Press Conference, has issued a firm and detailed rebuttal against a viral video circulated by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM.)

The video, which has gained traction across platforms, accuses Onyiaeze of criminal conduct, including alleged land grabbing—claims his camp describes as not only false but deliberately malicious.
According to the statement, Onyiaeze is a law-abiding United States citizen and an accomplished healthcare professional with a spotless record. Associates insist that the allegations are a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation and incite public hostility.

What raises further concern, the coalition argues, is the alleged attempt by the influencer to draw international attention by tagging the U.S. State Department in the controversial claims. This move, they say, risks misleading diplomatic channels and amplifying misinformation beyond Nigeria’s borders.

“This is more than a personal attack,” the statement suggests. “It reflects a disturbing trend where social media platforms are weaponized against professionals, particularly members of the diaspora, whose livelihoods and safety may be jeopardized by viral falsehoods.”

The coalition did not mince words in describing the implications of such actions, pointing to Nigeria’s Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015. They argue that the content in question may fall under cyberstalking, bullying, and the dissemination of harmful material intended to cause fear and reputational damage.

Calling for swift intervention, the group has urged the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Office of the Attorney General to take decisive action against Otse. Their position is clear: the digital space must not be allowed to operate without consequence.

Meanwhile, Onyiaeze’s legal team, led by Barrister Abu Abubakar Orumah, has reportedly initiated a ₦1 billion libel and defamation suit. The team has also issued a 48-hour ultimatum, demanding a full retraction of the claims or face legal action in court.

As the situation unfolds, it raises broader questions about responsibility in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital ecosystem—where influence is powerful, but accountability remains essential.
