Diabetic patients affected by the disease have been advised to seek medical attention to treat and control the disease before it gets out of hand.
Mrs Hephzibah Adedokun Raymond gave the advice in a paper she presented at a One-day seminar, titled ” Diabetes; science, clinical care and support” at the just concluded Organization of African Instituted Churches OAIC, FCT Women Wing, third convention held recently at Christ Holy Church, Area One, Garki, Abuja.
The disease she noted could be managed and control on a day-day basis adding that much can be done to prevent the development of the disease except Type 1 diabetes.
” The earlier the diabetes is diagnosed, the sooner steps can be taken to treat and control it.
The better you are able to control your blood sugar level, the more likely you are to live a long healthy life”, she pointed out.
Diabetes she noted could be managed if the affected person (s) regulate blood pressure, lose weight if overweight, work with health care team to develop a weight loss plan, take medication and prescribed insulin therapy.
Such patients she advised further should get more physical activity, go for whole grains, lose extra weight if overweight, get plenty of fiber especially foods high in fibers such as fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts and regular checkups.
Other remedies she recommended includes; checking blood glucose and lipid profile regulations by diet plan, physical excercise, limit alcohol intake, smoking and keep hydrated.
Highlights of the event includes; visit to City of Refuge Orphanage Home, Durumi, Abuja, thanksgiving by different churches under the umbrella of the organization and cutting of Anniversary cake.
