The Ebonyi State Government has announced an upward review of civil servants’ salaries by ₦20,000 across board, raising the new minimum wage in the state to ₦90,000.
The increment, according to the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, was approved during Wednesday’s Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held at the New Government House, Abakaliki.

Omebe, who briefed newsmen after the meeting, said the decision was in line with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s commitment to the People’s Charter of Needs, aimed at alleviating the economic hardship faced by workers in the state.
He also revealed that all retirees from 1996 to date have been fully paid their entitlements, stressing that the gesture was to ensure they live a better life after 35 years of service to the state.
Omebe further disclosed that 140 students have been awarded scholarships at the newly established ICT University, Oferekpe, in Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area.
He explained that the beneficiaries were selected across the 13 LGAs, with each producing 10 recipients, while 10 additional slots were given to students from host communities.
“In addition, EXCO approved the installation of wireless internet facilities in strategic locations across the state to strengthen security and enhance business transactions.
To position the university as a world-class institution, the state government also approved ₦669,000 as school fees for the 2025/2026 academic session. Students are required to pay at least 60% of the fees within the first two weeks of the semester, while the balance must be cleared in the first week of the second semester.
“Other approvals include the remodelling of the State Library to international standards.
Implementation to Begin Immediately
Omebe stressed that the salary increment takes immediate effect, reaffirming the administration’s resolve to prioritise the welfare of Ebonyi workers and ensure access to quality education for the younger generation.
Meanwhile, civil servants in the state have commended the governor for his benevolence to the workers of the state.
Mrs. Mary Ajaogu said this is good news to us because of the economic development in the country today, every civil servant finds it difficult to sustain the family with the salary, but with this increment, it will go a long way to help us.
God will bless our governor and give him good health.
