The Proactive Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, has commended veteran diplomat Ambassador Eineje Onobu for documenting his career in a new book titled Fragments of Time: My Foreign Service Years, describing it as a vital contribution to Nigeria’s diplomatic history.
Speaking at the official launch held Tuesday at the Rotunda of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Ahmed said the publication goes beyond a personal memoir, noting that it captures a lifetime of service, dedication, and commitment to Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
According to him, Onobu’s distinguished career reflects the core values of the country’s diplomatic service, including professionalism, patriotism, resilience, and integrity. He added that the book provides a compelling narrative drawn from carefully preserved moments that highlight the complexities of diplomacy and Nigeria’s evolving role in global affairs.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the memoir would serve as both a historical record and a guide for officers within the Ministry, particularly younger diplomats, urging them to uphold the high standards set by seasoned professionals.
He further described the publication as a significant contribution to scholarship and national memory, stressing that it offers valuable insights not only for diplomats but also for policymakers, academics, and the general public.
Ahmed also observed that the book comes at a time of rapid global transformation marked by geopolitical shifts and emerging challenges, emphasizing that diplomacy remains a crucial tool for navigating such complexities and advancing national interests.
On behalf of the Ministry, he congratulated Onobu for sharing his experiences, expressing confidence that the book would inspire future generations and serve as a lasting reference in Nigeria’s foreign service.
The event attracted members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and other distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate the author’s contributions to Nigeria’s international engagements.
