Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has called on security agencies to implement reward systems to boost the morale of their officers and personnel.
Governor Nwifuru made this request during a courtesy visit on Saturday by Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu.

The visit took place in the Governor’s office at the Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki.
“I am confident that you are familiar with the security landscape in the Southeast geopolitical zone. God has been with us, along with the capable military officers deployed to our state,” the Governor stated.
“I want to assure you of our continued support. I have confidence in the dedication of the men serving in this state. We have shown our appreciation for their good work by providing cash rewards and even gifting some of them cars.”
The Governor urged the new GOC to increase efforts to end the sit-at-home orders often declared by non-state actors in the Southeast region.
Earlier, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye commended Governor Nwifuru for his support of the military. He assured the Governor of his commitment to collaborating with the state to maintain law and order.
“I assumed command as the General Officer Commanding of the 82 Division on January 27, 2025. The purpose of my visit is to better understand the operating environment, the challenges faced, and the future of this command. It is also aimed at enhancing inter-agency and inter-service collaboration,” he explained.
“I want to thank you for ensuring that all agencies work together effectively for better outcomes. I have been informed about the cash rewards given to some of our personnel who have performed excellently. I appreciate the honour and respect you have shown for the military,” the GOC said.
