An atmosphere of joy, hope and inspiration filled the graduation ceremony of Beautiful Beginning Academy (BBA) as a special needs student, Ms. Adaeze Tochukwu Tahila Okeke, received a life-changing scholarship to study at Nile University of Nigeria.

The scholarship, announced by the Managing Director of AFRIQUE Investments and Infrastructure Partners, Sir Okechi Uchechukwu, became the defining moment of the 2026 graduation ceremony, drawing thunderous applause from parents, teachers, graduands and distinguished guests who celebrated Adaeze’s resilience, determination and remarkable journey.

The emotional occasion took an even more touching turn when the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, dedicated the prestigious Beacon of Education Award presented to her by Beautiful Beginning Academy to the young scholar.

Visibly moved while receiving the award, Grace Ike admitted she never anticipated the honour and revealed that Adaeze’s inspiring story left her struggling to contain her emotions.

“I wasn’t expecting this recognition, and when I heard Adaeze’s story, I couldn’t hold back my tears. This award belongs to her because her courage is an inspiration to us all,” she said.

She pledged to use her platform as a journalist and media leader to champion the cause of children, particularly those living with special needs, by giving greater visibility to their stories and advocating for increased societal support.

“I will continue to amplify the voices of children and use every opportunity available to promote their welfare. Society must do more to support children with special needs and appreciate families who make enormous sacrifices for them,” Ike stated, while commending Adaeze’s family for their unwavering commitment.

Earlier, the management of Beautiful Beginning Academy honoured the NUJ FCT Chairman with the Beacon of Education Award in recognition of her unwavering commitment to educational advancement, youth development and excellence in public service.

In her keynote address, Grace Ike challenged graduating students to build their lives on integrity, resilience and compassion, stressing that character remains the greatest measure of success.

She reminded the graduands that while their classroom examinations had ended, life would continually test their honesty, discipline, courage and determination.

“Academic excellence is important, but character is what truly distinguishes great people. Long after certificates fade, your integrity and reputation will continue to speak for you,” she said.

She further encouraged the students to remain resilient in the face of setbacks, describing failure as a stepping stone to greater accomplishments rather than an end to ambition.

The veteran journalist also urged the graduands to cultivate a reading culture, remain curious, choose positive friendships, respect others and never lose confidence in their dreams.

Grace Ike paid glowing tribute to parents for their sacrifices and applauded the teachers and management of Beautiful Beginning Academy for nurturing future leaders through quality education, mentorship and moral discipline.

She charged the graduating class to become agents of positive change by embracing excellence, selfless service, compassion and integrity in every aspect of their lives.

The ceremony concluded on a high note with Adaeze’s scholarship symbolising the power of inclusive education, compassion and corporate social responsibility in transforming lives and creating brighter opportunities for children with special needs.
