My goal was to support the BET to include Nigerian and African artists to win a special award on the international stage. I am proud that we successfully got Nigerian and African artists the attention they deserved on the global stage. And BET played big role in that effort. My small contribution as a corporate sponsor also helped in no small measure, I was told by BET.
I was particularly pleased and felt a sense of personal fulfillment when my own Ifitedunu brothers, “P-Square” was nominated for a BET Award in 2010. In the category that I sponsored, me an Ifitedunu Prince, sponsoring an award for which the best acts in Africa that were nominated included the Ifitedunu Twins known as P-Square.
P-Square (Peter Psquare and Rudeboy) were nominated in the Best International Act category that year.
It is pertinent to note that this special BET award in 2010 marked the first year BET included African artists on their main stage before creating the dedicated “Africa” category the following year, in 2011.
P-Square shared the 2010 nomination with other African pioneers like M.I Abaga (Nigeria), Kojo Antwi (Ghana), and HHP (South Africa).
I was there for that award night, and I also personally hosted all the nominees, including my brothers P-Square to a special dinner. I hosted the special dinner in collaboration with the President and CEO of BET NETWORKS, at that time, Ms. Debra L. Lee
I feel sad today as I hear about the family feud that has torn this World Class act apart.
