The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing credible data and statistics in the formulation of state policies and public programs.
Executive Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf highlighted this position while officially declaring open the 1st Bi-Annual Meeting of the National Consultative Committee on Statistics held in Kano.
This was contained in a pree release issued by Mustapha Muhammad, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the Governor emphasized that statistics serve as the indispensable foundation of effective governance.
”Statistics are the foundation upon which sound public policy, effective planning, and accountable governance are built,” Governor Yusuf stated. “As a government, we cannot properly identify the needs of our people, allocate scarce resources, measure progress, or evaluate the impact of our policies without credible and timely data.”
Speaking earlier at the event, the Statistician-General of the Federation and CEO of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, described data as a critical strategic asset for sustainable development.
He noted that the essence of data-driven governance lies in leveraging accurate information to guide decision-making across government programs.
