In line with its renewed commitment to end water scarcity, the Kano State Executive Council has approved ₦1.7 billion for the settlement of utility costs for major water facilities across the state.
In a statement by governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa this was part of the resolutions made at the Council’s 27th meeting held on April 28, 2025.
The fund covers electricity, diesel, and petrol bills for operations at the Greater Kano Water Works and the State Water Board Headquarters from January to March 2025.
The Council also reiterated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to comprehensive water sector reforms, including infrastructure upgrade and energy sustainability.
According to the statement the payment is a “strategic intervention to ensure uninterrupted water supply across Kano.”
The Council reaffirmed plans to implement a strategic water master plan involving stakeholder engagement, improved revenue collection, and environmental sustainability in managing water resources.
The governor had previously pledged that no household in Kano would be left behind in the state’s vision for clean and safe water access.
It is expected that with this huge intervention by the State government, water scarcity would become a thing of the past. Thanks to the Governor Abba Yusuf led Administration.
