Meet Africa’s Youngest Doctorate Graduate

IMPRESSIVE 👏 👌 Professor Musawenkosi Donia Saurombe is a trailblazing academic who achieved remarkable milestones at a young age. At 23, she became the youngest female PhD graduate in Africa, earning a Doctorate in Industrial Psychology from North-West University. By 28, she was appointed Associate Professor of Industrial Psychology at the University of Johannesburg.

Born in Zimbabwe, raised in Botswana, and currently residing in South Africa, Professor Musa’s academic journey began at 16 when she started her undergraduate studies at North-West University. She went on to earn a BCom in Human Resources Management at 19, a BCom Honours in Human Resources Management at 20, and a Master of Commerce (MCom) in Human Resources Management at 21.

Her PhD thesis, which focused on talent value proposition for academic staff in South African higher education, was exceptional, passing without corrections. Professor Saurombe holds esteemed positions, including Editorial Fellow at the American Psychological Association, Academic Editor at PLOS, and Research Supervisor at STADIO Higher Education.Reflecting on her journey, Professor Saurombe said, “Coming from a household where my parents made sacrifices to give my siblings and me a better start in life has always driven me to thrive. Though pursuing success entails struggle, committing to push through barriers makes it temporary.
