The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has moved to forge a strategic partnership with the Polish Embassy in Abuja, aimed at accelerating impactful women empowerment programmes across the territory.
This push was unveiled when the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Bassey Ita-Ikpang, led members of the association on a courtesy visit to the Polish Ambassador, where she outlined the group’s vision for deeper collaboration.
Ita-Ikpang emphasized NAWOJ’s commitment to advancing the rights and development of women, noting that partnerships remain critical to achieving meaningful and lasting impact.

She spotlighted key upcoming activities marking International Women’s Day, including a Marketplace Advocacy scheduled for March 26 and a Capacity Building Workshop for female journalists on March 27. According to her, support from the Embassy would significantly strengthen the reach and effectiveness of these initiatives.
Describing NAWOJ FCT as a vibrant professional body with over 350 members, she said the association continues to champion advocacy for women, children, and vulnerable groups, while promoting ethical journalism and professional growth among female journalists.

“At NAWOJ, we believe collaboration is the engine that drives gender equality, media excellence, and sustainable development. This engagement is a step toward building meaningful and productive cooperation,” she said.
She also commended Poland for its global reputation in education, innovation, democratic governance, and social progress, while appreciating the Embassy’s role in fostering strong Nigeria–Poland relations through development and cultural exchange.
Highlighting NAWOJ’s role as a bridge between government, development partners, and the public, Ita-Ikpang noted that the proposed partnership would amplify women’s voices, promote health awareness, and drive inclusive social development.
In his response, the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Michal Cygan, expressed readiness to collaborate with NAWOJ FCT, pledging the Embassy’s support for its programmes.
He disclosed plans to back the association through training and exchange initiatives, with a strong focus on promoting women’s participation in political leadership and enhancing their visibility through advocacy platforms.
Cygan reaffirmed Poland’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Nigeria, stressing that the collaboration would open new opportunities for women and equip them with the knowledge needed to thrive.
He expressed optimism that the partnership would serve as a catalyst for empowering more women and advancing shared development goals.
