NCWS Seeks Partnership with University of Abuja to Empower Women

The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Nigeria, has expressed its commitment to partnering with the University of Abuja to advance women’s education and empowerment.

This was stated during a courtesy visit by NCWS delegation, abley led by the National President, Princess Edna D. D. Azura, to the institution.

During the visit, Princess Azura congratulated the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maikudi, expressing confidence in his leadership to drive progress at the university, praised the institution for its dedication to academic excellence and societal development.

The NCWS delegation highlighted their interest in collaborating with the university on initiatives that support female students, particularly in scholarships, mentorship programs, and leadership training. They also proposed joint research initiatives on issues affecting women, such as gender-based violence and economic empowerment.

Princess Azura emphasized that NCWS, founded in 1958, operates in all 36 states and 774 local government areas of Nigeria, advocating for women’s rights and socio-economic advancement, reiterating the organization’s mission to promote gender equality and ensure women’s voices are heard.

She acknowledged the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as the Grand Patron of NCWS, along with governors’ wives as state patrons, underscoring the organization’s wide-reaching influence.

The visit also focused on strengthening ties with the university through capacity-building workshops, advocacy campaigns, and awareness programs aimed at addressing barriers to women’s progress.

Responding, Prof. Maikudi highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive academic environment and emphasized the importance of partnerships with organizations like NCWS to advance educational opportunities for women and girls.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed interest in the proposed initiatives, including scholarships, mentorship programs, and joint research projects, focusing on issues affecting women, such as gender-based violence and economic empowerment. noting that these collaborative efforts align with the university’s mission to contribute to societal development and empower marginalized groups.

Prof. Maikudi, who acknowledged the significance of capacity-building workshops, welcomed the initiative, promising to explore areas of collaboration that would benefit female students and contribute to national development.
