The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Nigeria, under the leadership of Princess Edna D.D. Azura joins the global community in marking World Cancer Day 2025. This year’s theme, “Close the Care Gap,” highlights the urgent need to bridge disparities in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, ensuring that no one—especially women and children—is left behind.

Cancer remains a leading cause of death worldwide, and in Nigeria, thousands of families continue to suffer due to late detection, inadequate healthcare access, and financial constraints. Women, in particular, face heightened risks from breast, cervical, and ovarian cancers, making it imperative that we strengthen awareness, early screening, and access to quality medical care.
NCWS is committed to advocating for stronger policies, increased funding, and public-private partnerships to improve cancer care infrastructure in Nigeria. We call on the government, corporate organizations, healthcare providers, and civil society to collaborate in making cancer prevention and treatment more accessible and affordable.
This World Cancer Day, we urge all Nigerians to take proactive steps: get screened, adopt healthy lifestyles, and support those battling cancer. Together, we can reduce cancer-related deaths and build a healthier, stronger nation.
Let us unite to close the care gap and ensure a future where cancer no longer claims lives unnecessarily. The time to act is now!
Signed:
Princess Edna D.D. Azura
