Niger : President Tinubu Assures 46, 853 IDP’s across Niger state of their Return to ancestral Homes

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has assured the 46,853 Internally Displaced Persons in Niger state of the FG efforts towards ensuring they return to their home soon.

The President spoke through the Vice President Senator Shettima Kashim who led the FG delegation on a sympathy visit to IDP camp in Gwada Shiroro Local Government Council on Friday, 13th September, 2024.

The President said that the federal government is mindful of the situation, while reiterating their commitment towards providing governance that will ease the suffering of the people.

He noted that Nigeria has been affected by insecurity and natural disasters which led to loss of lives and properties, made known that federal government has given three billion to each states to address issues of flooding.

Further noted that apart from food items and non consumable items presented to the IDPs, federal government will synergise with state government and NEMA to eradicate the sufferings.

Earlier, Niger state Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago stated that the state has been hit by insecurity and natural disasters which led to the creation of 14 IDP camps across the state.

Mohammed Bago commended president Ahmed Bola Tinubu for the intervention and the delegation led by the vice president.

Speaking in an interview, the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Ahmed Suleiman and the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Babaara commended the intervention from the Federal government through NEMA and promised to continue to partner with them for the wellbeing of the IDPS while efforts are being made for their safe return.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Shiroro local government area, Akilu Isiyaku said he is ready to provide every support that would ensure that the people are back to their ancestral homes.

Some IDPs interviewed, called on government at all levels to do everything within their powers for them to go back to their homes.

A total of 46,853 IDPs comprising men, women, and children are in Niger State across 14 camps, out of which 5,823 are at the Gwada camp.

The Minister for Information and National Orientation, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, Minister for State, Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abdullahi Sabi, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia and the Director General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar were among the entourage of the Vice President.
