The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, on Monday, August 10, 2026, flagged off the distribution of 5,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers across the senatorial district.
The flag-off ceremony, held at Iboko, headquarters of Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was part of Senator Nwebonyi’s continued intervention in agriculture aimed at supporting farmers, boosting food production and strengthening food security across the zone.

Represented at the occasion by Barr. Patrick Mbam, Senator Nwebonyi said the annual distribution of farm inputs had become a deliberate intervention because of the predominantly agrarian nature of Ebonyi North.
He said timely access to farm inputs would increase agricultural productivity, improve farmers’ livelihoods, guarantee food security and create greater economic opportunities for constituents.
Flagging off the distribution, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Mrs. Nkechinyere Iyioku, represented by the Director in the Ministry, Mrs. Oby Chidinma Okoye, commended Senator Nwebonyi for his commitment to agricultural development and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fertilizer.
She charged the farmers to apply the inputs to their farms as intended, stressing that increased agricultural production remained critical to achieving food security in Ebonyi State.
Setting the tone for the event, the Executive Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Barr. Stephen Nwankpa, described Senator Nwebonyi’s performance in the 10th Senate as outstanding.
Nwankpa declared that the Senator’s re-election for a second term was sacrosanct, while urging beneficiaries to resist the temptation to sell the fertilizer.
He advised them to use the inputs strictly for farming to ensure improved yields and contribute to the food security drive of the state.
Also speaking, the Member representing Izzi West State Constituency, Hon. Godwin Abiri; APC Chairmanship Candidate for Izzi Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Helen Aduga; Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief Whip on Community Engagement and Human Welfare, Apostle Benjamin Obeji; and Leader of Izzi Legislative Council and State Chairman of the Councilors Forum, Hon. Nwabueze Ominyi, commended Senator Nwebonyi for his sustained support for farmers and other interventions across Ebonyi North.
Some beneficiaries, including the traditional ruler of Ndieze Echi Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Ogbonna Eze, Mr. Ogaranya Sunday and Hon. Mrs. Ogbonna Sunday, expressed appreciation to the Senator for the intervention.
They pledged to utilize the fertilizer diligently to improve their farm yields and achieve bumper harvests.
In Izzi Local Government Area, 1,000 bags of fertilizer were distributed in an orderly manner, with each of the 14 electoral wards allocated 60 bags for onward distribution to genuine farmers across the wards.
The event also featured testimonies from previous beneficiaries, who said earlier farm inputs received through Senator Nwebonyi’s interventions had contributed significantly to improved yields and bumper harvests during the last farming season.
The initiative, according to stakeholders, further demonstrates Senator Nwebonyi’s sustained commitment to agricultural development, farmer empowerment, food security and improved economic wellbeing for constituents across Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
