President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, has extended warm congratulations to African leaders and citizens on the occasion of Africa Day 2026, reaffirming Russia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with nations across the continent.

In a congratulatory message addressed to Heads of State and Government of African countries to mark the annual celebration on May 24, President Putin described Africa Day as a symbol of the continent’s victory over colonialism and its enduring quest for freedom, peace, and prosperity.
The Russian leader commended African countries for what he described as “impressive success” in economic and social development, noting that the continent is playing an increasingly important role in addressing key global issues.
According to him, cooperation among African nations through the African Union and other subregional bodies continues to expand, while mechanisms for responding to local conflicts and crises are also being strengthened.
President Putin stressed that Russia attaches “great importance” to its long-standing friendly relations with African states, adding that both Russia and African nations share a common vision of building a just multipolar world founded on equality, respect for international law, and freedom from discrimination and external domination.
He further expressed optimism that the forthcoming Third Russia-Africa Summit scheduled to hold in Moscow in October 2026 would open new opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships between Russia and African countries across various sectors.
“I will be glad to welcome African leaders in Moscow,” Putin stated.
The Russian President also wished African leaders success in their state responsibilities and prayed for peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of the continent.
Africa Day is celebrated annually on May 25 to commemorate the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union, and to honour the continent’s unity, resilience, and development aspirations.
