Respecting National Symbols : A Call to Action on National Ordinance Day

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) Jigawa State marked the 2025 National Ordinance Day in Dutse, using the occasion to urge Nigerians to respect national symbols. According to the State Director, Mallam Ahmad Ibrahim Tijjani, national symbols are a representation of Nigeria’s identity and unity as a nation and people.

The Director emphasized that these symbols are not just ceremonial objects but powerful representations of Nigeria’s dignity. He listed the national symbols as including the National Flag, Coat of Arms, National Anthem, Pledge, Constitution, National Identity Card, International Passport, and other emblems of sovereignty.

September 16 is annually observed as National Ordinance Day to commemorate the formal handing over of national symbols to Nigeria at independence. The NOA boss stressed that the agency remains committed to sensitizing the public, especially younger generations, on the importance of national symbols through patriotism, which engenders love and dignity.

The NOA Director also explained that the Flags and Coats of Arms Act 48 of 1960 outlines regulations on the display and use of the Nigerian National Flag and the National Coat of Arms. By respecting national symbols, Nigerians can demonstrate their love and commitment to the country, fostering a sense of unity and patriotism.

This was contained in a Statement issued by Sarah Ogodo, Head, Media And Communication
National Orientation Agency, Jigawa.
