Rural, Satellite Water Promise Nearing Reality – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the promise made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide potable water to satellite towns across Abuja is fast becoming a reality.

Speaking during the commissioning of the completed loops of the Greater Abuja Water Project, Wike recalled how, during President Tinubu’s visit to China last year, a significant agreement was signed between the FCT Administration and China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) to extend water supply beyond the city center.

“Mr. President, you didn’t only stop at completing the long-awaited Abuja water project. During our visit to China, where I was privileged to be part of your delegation, we signed an agreement with CGC to provide water to rural communities in the FCT,” Wike said.

He noted that the procurement process for the rural water supply is almost complete, and that the administration is set to roll out water projects in key satellite towns including Bwari, Kubwa, Karu, and other underserved communities.

“You are not only providing water to the city; you are also providing water to the satellite towns,” Wike emphasized.

The Minister assured President Tinubu and Nigerians that, unlike the current water project which took over eight years to complete, those of satellite towns would be delivered in record time.

“We believe that by your third-year anniversary, we will commission the water projects in these satellite towns,” he affirmed.

Wike also commended the National Assembly for their unwavering support to the FCT Administration, describing their cooperation as impressive and encouraging.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to visible development, Wike added: “Every day, people will see what you are doing in the FCT. Those who want to see will see. Those who don’t want to see, it’s not your fault. They have simply chosen not to see.”

The Minister also reiterated FCT Administration’s dedication to equitable development under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring that both urban and rural communities have access to essential services.
