President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the Bwari Township Water Supply Network Project in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), promising that clean water supply would be extended to Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji before the end of his administration.

The President, represented by First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu made the promise during the water commissioning ceremony held at the Bwari Market Roundabout, Bwari Area Council, in Abuja.

“And I assure you, by the grace of Almighty God, before our tenure is through, this water revolution will fully cover Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji,” Tinubu assured.

Tinubu explained that the newly commissioned 198-kilometre water pipeline network, constructed by China Geo-engineering Construction (CGC) Limited, links Bwari Township and surrounding communities to the Lower Usuma Dam, providing residents with access to treated water.

The President described the project as another fulfillment of the Renewed Hope Agenda, insisting that his administration was committed to ensuring that development reaches satellite towns and rural communities.

He said his administration had resolved to end what he described as the long-standing imbalance in Abuja’s development, where the city centre enjoyed modern infrastructure while surrounding communities remained underserved.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not a slogan. It is a contract. It is a deliberate, calculated commitment to governance that works for the people.

“For too long, the narrative of Abuja has been a tale of two cities, a glittering center surrounded by underserved communities. We said no. That era is gone. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and development must be decentralized” Tinubu said.

The President recalled that after receiving the master plan for the intervention from the Minister of FCT, he immediately approved the project to provide potable water to residents who had depended on untreated boreholes and streams for years.

According to him, the project was completed ahead of schedule because his administration promptly released the necessary funds instead of allowing it to become another abandoned government project.

“I gave him a direct order: ‘Go out there, mobilize the best, and fix it.We don’t make excuses; we deliver results!”

Tinubu noted that beyond improving access to clean water, the project would reduce waterborne diseases, eliminate the dependence on individual boreholes and create economic opportunities.

The President assured residents that the Bwari project forms part of a broader water expansion programme across the FCT, said the project alone has generated over 1,600 direct and indirect jobs for the youths and opening up new economic pathways.

Tinubu also commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across the territory.”Mr. Project! You have shown that with fiscal discipline, political will, and a deep love for the people, transformation is not only possible but also inevitable”.

He urged residents to safeguard the new infrastructure against vandalism for sustainability.

Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,Mr Nyesom Wike, announced that the commissioning of the Bwari Water Supply Network marked the 50th project inaugurated in the FCT since President Tinubu assumed office.

He disclosed that another 10 projects would be commissioned before January, saying, “Is not chor chor chor, we are visionary and we are prepared to take nigeria to greater heights.”

In her vote of thanks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the Bwari Water Supply Network as a major milestone in implementing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, said the project represents “the fulfilment of a promise,” noting that access to clean water would improve public health, enhance livelihoods and restore public confidence in government.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Yonana, who described the project as a significant advancement in the provision of potable water, said Water Supply would in Bwari provide water to settlements including Ushafa and Kuchiko.
