The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and save Nigeria’s democracy, which is allegedly being threatened by the president’s political surrogates. Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, National Chairman of ZLP, made this plea during an emergency meeting convened to address the rising political tensions in Rivers, Osun, and Lagos States.

Nwanyanwu expressed concern over the “anti-democratic music” booming in these states, particularly in Rivers State, where 27 members of the State House of Assembly defected to another party without any division in leadership at the national level. He questioned the legal status of these defectors and the implications of their actions on the state’s governance.
The ZLP chairman cautioned against the repetition of the “Wild Wild West” scenario, where political crises led to violence and economic instability. He warned that if Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State is impeached in a non-transparent manner, it could lead to sabotage of oil flow by the Ijaw people, resulting in dire economic consequences.
Nwanyanwu also criticized the withholding of local government funds in Rivers State, calling it an irony under President Tinubu’s administration. He emphasized the need for President Tinubu to intervene and halt the “less than melodic music” of anti-democratic actions, which he believes are being orchestrated by the president’s political surrogates, including Ministers Nyesom Wike and Oyetola, and Honourable Obasa of Lagos State House of Assembly.
The ZLP chairman concluded by urging President Tinubu to take immediate action to save Nigeria’s democracy, which is “regrettably in recession.” Hopefully President Tinubu would need the call.
