The National Orientation Agency (NOA) is urging all Nigerians to join the global fight against Hepatitis as the world marks World Hepatitis Day. The Jigawa State Director of NOA, Malam Ahmad Ibrahim, made the call in Dutse, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts to eliminate the disease.
Theme: “Hepatitis: Let’s Break it Down”
This year’s theme highlights the importance of breaking down barriers that hinder the elimination of Hepatitis. These barriers include financial, social, and system challenges that prevent people from accessing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Understanding Hepatitis
Hepatitis is a dangerous inflammation of the liver caused by viruses like Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. Hepatitis B and C are the most deadly, often leading to liver cancer and death if left untreated. However, the good news is that Hepatitis is preventable and treatable.
Getting Tested is Crucial
Many people living with Hepatitis are unaware of their status. Malam Ibrahim stressed the importance of getting tested today at a hospital or health center. Knowing one’s status is the first step towards prevention and treatment.
Vaccination is Key
Vaccination against Hepatitis B is safe, effective, and available. The NOA Director encouraged the public to get vaccinated and adopt safe health habits, such as avoiding sharing sharp objects and ensuring blood transfusions are screened.
Stigma Must Stop
The NOA Director also emphasized the need to stop stigmatizing people living with Hepatitis. Instead, they deserve support and compassion, not discrimination. By working together, we can create a supportive environment that encourages people to seek help and treatment.
Call to Action
As the world marks World Hepatitis Day, the NOA is calling on all Nigerians to join the global fight against Hepatitis. Let’s break down the barriers that hinder elimination and work towards a future where Hepatitis is no longer a public health threat.
Conclusion
The fight against Hepatitis requires a collective effort. By getting tested, vaccinated, and adopting safe health habits, we can prevent the spread of the disease. Let’s join hands to eliminate Hepatitis and create a healthier Nigeria.
