The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have recorded significant operational successes in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and organised crime across various parts of the country. Between May 25 and 28, 2026, troops deployed in different operational theatres intensified offensive actions, leading to the rescue of kidnapped victims, arrest of criminal suspects, recovery of weapons, and the neutralisation of several terrorists and bandits.

According to the Defence Headquarters, the latest achievements demonstrate the military’s sustained commitment to safeguarding lives, protecting communities, and restoring peace across the nation. The operations, carried out through coordinated ground, air, and intelligence-led missions, cut across the North-East, North-West, North-Central, South-South, and South-East regions.
In the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai maintained pressure on terrorist groups operating in Borno, Yobe, and Taraba states. Several terrorists were neutralised during fighting patrols and ambush operations, while weapons, ammunition, and communication devices were recovered. Continued military offensives also forced some individuals associated with terrorist enclaves to surrender, while rescued victims previously held in captivity were successfully received and processed by security personnel.
The military also recorded notable gains in the North-West under Operation Fansan Yamma. Troops arrested suspected terrorist collaborators, dismantled criminal hideouts, and recovered arms and motorcycles used by bandits. In a major humanitarian achievement, 31 kidnapped victims regained their freedom in Zamfara State after escaping captivity following sustained military and air force operations targeting criminal camps.
Perhaps one of the most remarkable developments during the period was the release of 148 kidnapped victims under Operation Savannah Shield. The victims, comprising mostly women and children who had spent more than three months in captivity, were freed and reunited with local authorities for onward reunification with their families. The development highlighted the impact of sustained pressure on criminal groups operating in remote forest locations.
In Kaduna State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace recorded breakthroughs against kidnapping syndicates. Security forces responded swiftly to attacks on vulnerable communities, rescued injured victims, and neutralised a notorious kidnap kingpin identified as Idi Yaya. Military authorities disclosed that intelligence-driven operations are continuing to track down and apprehend other members of the criminal network.
The campaign against organised crime also extended to Benue State, where troops under Operation Whirl Stroke uncovered suspected drug trafficking operations. Follow-up raids led to the recovery of large quantities of suspected illicit drugs, including methamphetamine, as well as cash, communication devices, and vehicles believed to be linked to criminal activities. Several suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing investigation.
In the South-South region, Operation Delta Safe intensified efforts to curb kidnapping and violent crimes in Edo State. Joint operations involving the military, police, and local security partners led to the arrest of suspects, the recovery of firearms, and the neutralisation of a suspected kidnapper during an ambush operation. Security operatives also recovered hard drugs, identity documents, and other items believed to be connected to criminal activities.
Similarly, troops of Operation Udo Ka in the South-East sustained the crackdown on criminal networks and members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN group. Security forces arrested suspected operatives in Ebonyi State and recovered materials linked to the group. In a separate operation in Abia State, suspects allegedly involved in attempted abduction and theft were apprehended and placed under investigation.
The Defence Headquarters noted that the recent operational gains reflect growing synergy among the Armed Forces and other security agencies. Military authorities reiterated their determination to sustain offensive operations until criminal elements are completely degraded and communities across the country can live without fear.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting citizens from all forms of security threats. He commended troops serving on various fronts for their courage and sacrifices and assured them of continued support to carry out their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
The military also called on Nigerians to continue supporting security efforts by providing credible and timely intelligence. According to the Defence Headquarters, information from citizens remains a critical component in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of criminality threatening national peace and stability.
