APC Bauchi Faces Deepening Crisis Amid Rising Defections, Internal Divisions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State is facing one of the most difficult periods in its political history as growing internal disagreements, defections, and dissatisfaction among party loyalists continue to threaten its unity and future electoral prospects.

What many supporters expected to be a season of political consolidation and strategic planning ahead of future elections has instead turned into a period marked by confusion, resentment, and widening cracks within the party structure.

Party faithful across the state believe the current situation could have been avoided if internal affairs had been handled with greater fairness, openness, and consultation among stakeholders.

Many members argue that what was expected to be a transparent political process gradually became dominated by personal interests and political calculations, leaving several committed stakeholders feeling sidelined and disappointed.

The emergence of former governor M.A. Abubakar as a central figure in the party’s future calculations has further intensified debates within APC circles. Critics within the party argue that he currently lacks the political momentum, widespread acceptance, and energy required to effectively challenge the opposition in the present political climate.

Rather than strengthening confidence within the party, his emergence is believed by many supporters to have deepened divisions and accelerated defections across several political camps.

One of the most controversial developments remains the political sidelining of prominent aspirants, especially Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar. To many APC supporters, Tuggar represented a new generation of leadership capable of repositioning the party and rebuilding public confidence.

Supporters describe Tuggar as a politician with national visibility, diplomatic experience, youth appeal, intellectual depth, and increasing grassroots acceptance across Bauchi State. Many believe his political value and growing popularity made him a strong asset for the future of APC in the state.

However, several loyalists now feel that competence, acceptability, and popularity were sacrificed in favour of personal political arrangements and short-term interests.
The perception that certain political decisions were designed primarily to serve individual ambitions rather than strengthen the long-term future of the party has continued to fuel tension within APC ranks.

Political observers note that the crisis has now gone beyond ordinary disagreements, as the party continues to lose not only supporters but also influential stakeholders with strong political structures and loyal followership.

Across Bauchi State, concerns are growing as:
Influential party members continue to defect.
Grassroots coordinators withdraw their loyalty.

Youth supporters express frustration.
Local party structures weaken.
Internal resentment spreads quietly across political camps.

Many of those leaving the party are considered politically valuable figures with strong community influence and electoral relevance. Their departure is gradually weakening confidence among remaining supporters while strengthening rival political platforms.

Several party loyalists insist that the crisis is largely self-inflicted, arguing that no political party can survive for long while continuously sidelining committed stakeholders and ignoring growing dissatisfaction among its members.

According to concerned supporters, APC Bauchi now appears divided between those genuinely focused on protecting the future of the party and those pursuing personal political interests.

The growing bitterness within the party, they warn, may take years to heal if urgent reconciliation efforts are not initiated immediately.

Many supporters who once defended the party passionately are now questioning their place within the political structure, while others have already begun aligning with alternative political interests.

Political analysts warn that no political party grows stronger by alienating its strongest assets, nor can any party remain competitive while continuously creating internal enemies through exclusion and lack of consultation.

There are increasing calls for urgent intervention by the leadership of APC at both the state and national levels to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
Stakeholders also stress the need for the party to recognize the strategic importance of leaders like Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, whose influence, credibility, and public acceptance are seen as critical to the future strength of APC in Bauchi State.

With defections increasing and frustration growing among party loyalists, many observers believe the APC in Bauchi must urgently decide whether to rebuild unity within its ranks or continue facing mounting political losses.
