The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has taken a major step toward strengthening its institutional presence with the successful acquisition of land for the construction of its permanent National Secretariat.

This milestone was unveiled during a courtesy visit by its National Chairperson, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), headed by National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya.
Addressing the NUJ leadership, Hajiya Ibrahim disclosed that NAWOJ has secured the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the land located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following the completion of all statutory requirements.
She explained that the process involved strict compliance with regulatory procedures, including submission of official authorization, minutes and attendance records of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that approved the acquisition, alongside necessary corporate and identification documents.

According to her, the NEC had formally mandated the leadership to pursue the project, demonstrating the association’s collective commitment to long-term growth and stability.
Providing further insight, the NAWOJ Chairperson revealed that despite bureaucratic hurdles, the association successfully navigated the process through internal coordination and timely interventions.

She noted that a total of ₦1,597,000 was expended to finalize the documentation, culminating in the issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy.
She expressed gratitude to stakeholders and supporters whose efforts facilitated access to relevant authorities and ensured the smooth completion of the process.
Highlighting the broader implications of the achievement, Hajiya Ibrahim described the land acquisition as a strategic investment aimed at enhancing the welfare and institutional capacity of NAWOJ members nationwide.
She added that plans are already in motion to commence development, with the goal of delivering a functional secretariat within the shortest possible timeframe.
The NAWOJ leader also acknowledged the continued support of the NUJ President, particularly his earlier intervention in helping the association retain its National Secretariat through assistance with rent obligations during a critical period.
In his remarks, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya commended NAWOJ for what he termed a landmark achievement, noting that securing land and obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy represents a lasting legacy for the association.
He congratulated the leadership and members of NAWOJ across the country and reaffirmed NUJ’s commitment to sustained collaboration. He further urged the association to fast-track development on the site and emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in driving sustainable growth.
The visit further underscored the enduring relationship between NAWOJ and NUJ, reflecting a shared dedication to promoting the welfare, unity, and professional advancement of journalists in Nigeria.
