The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has constituted a seven-member committee to manage the Association’s National Secretariat Trust Fund, in a move aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and sustainable financial management.
The committee was constituted at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Association held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Barcelona Hotels, Abuja, and was inaugurated immediately after its constitution.
The development is part of efforts by the NAWOJ National Secretariat to establish a credible and accountable framework for managing resources dedicated to the development and sustainability of a befitting National Secretariat for the Association.
The seven-member committee has a broad zonal representation and comprises Hannatu Mohammed from Zone A; Adeola Adewole, Secretary, Zone B; Amaka Agbo, Vice President, Zone C; Chizoba Ogbeche, Vice President, Zone D; Fatima Ahmad, Chairperson, Yobe State, Zone E; Grace M. Orumueyefa, Chairperson, Bayelsa State, Zone F; and Fatima Rasheed, National Treasurer, who will serve as Chairperson of the committee.
Inaugurating the committee, the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajia Aishatu Ibrahim, charged members to approach the assignment with integrity, diligence, accountability and a strong sense of responsibility.
She stressed that the Trust Fund remains a collective asset of the Association and must be managed strictly in the overall interest of NAWOJ and its members.
According to her, the confidence reposed in the committee places a significant responsibility on members to uphold the principles of transparency, probity and prudent financial management.
The National Chairperson further urged the committee to ensure that every resource entrusted to the Fund is properly accounted for and deployed in line with the objectives for which the Trust Fund was established.
The establishment of the committee, according to the National Secretariat, is a significant step towards institutionalising a sustainable mechanism for mobilising and managing resources for the actualisation of NAWOJ’s long-term vision of establishing and sustaining a befitting National Secretariat.
The committee is expected to provide effective oversight of the Fund, promote transparency in its operations and ensure prudent management of resources while supporting initiatives geared towards the development of the Association.
With representatives drawn from the various zones, the National Secretariat expressed confidence that the committee would bring together diverse experience, commitment and accountability in the discharge of its mandate.
T he inauguration further underscores the determination of the current NAWOJ leadership to strengthen institutional structures and promote a culture of accountability as the Association continues to advance the interests and welfare of women journalists across Nigeria.
