NAWOJ to Ebonyi Students : Speak up if your Right is Abused

As part of activities to mark the 2024 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ebonyi State Chapter, visited the Annunciation Primary School Kpirikpiri, Abakaliki, the state capital.

The visit which took place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, was part of NAWOJ’s efforts to promote awareness and sensitization on gender-based violence, particularly among young people, featured interactive sessions with pupils of the school.

In her remarks, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Ebonyi, Nkechinyere Oginyi emphasized the importance of speaking up stressing that silence only perpetuates the cycle of violence.

She encouraged them to speak up whenever they witness or experience any form of violence or abuse, stressing that their voices matter, and can create a safer and more just society for all.

The pupils were also educated on the different forms of gender-based violence, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, and were encouraged to report any incidents of violence or abuse to trusted adults, such as teachers, parents, or guardians.

The visit was part of NAWOJ Ebonyi’s activities to mark the 2024 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from November 25 to December 10, 2024.
