Niger State Govt Moves to Tackle Water Shortage, Procures Treatment Chemicals

The Niger State Government has intensified efforts to tackle the persistent water shortage across the state with the procurement of essential water treatment chemicals, including 1,200 bags of aluminum sulphate and 30 drums of high-test hypochlorite (HTH chlorine).

This development was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources and Dams Development, Akilu Musa Kuta, who noted that the dry season usually poses major challenges to water supply. He said the intervention was part of proactive measures by the administration of Governor Farmer Muhammad Umaru Bago to ensure uninterrupted access to safe and clean water for all residents despite limited resources.

According to Kuta, the state government remains committed to revitalizing all major waterworks and Biwater supply schemes across Niger State. He emphasized that the procurement of the chemicals reflects the administration’s determination to enhance water treatment processes and expand supply coverage to both urban and rural communities.

“The government is taking deliberate steps to address the issue of water scarcity by ensuring that all Nigerlites have access to affordable, reliable, and potable drinking water,” he stated, adding that the effort demonstrates Governor Bago’s commitment to improving the welfare and well-being of citizens.

Meanwhile, residents in several parts of Minna, the state capital, have already begun to experience improved water supply. Benefiting areas include the College of Education, parts of Tunga, Chanchaga, Tungan Gauro, Gidan Madara, UK Bello–Labour House, Mobil area, Kwangila, Old Airport Quarters, Kuta Road, A/Daji, Central Mosque, David Mark Road, El-Amin School area, Tudun Natsira, M.I. Wushishi Estate, Mandala Road, Himma School area, Barikin Saleh, Kpakungu, Darusalam, Oduoye Quarters, Sauka Kahuta, London Street, Adamawa Road, NIPOST Quarters, Okada Road, Government House, GRA, Natty Farm, and Fadikpe, among others.

The Permanent Secretary assured residents that more areas would soon benefit as the ministry continues its revitalization efforts to achieve efficient and sustainable water distribution across the state.
