The League of Women Voters in Nigeria (NILOWV) has disassociated itself from a report published on March 6th 2023 edition of The AfricanExaminer.com, where the league was listed among CSOs that floated the M3- Group
to support the Mandate of Dr Peter Mbah the Governor -Elect of Enugu State.
According to the National General Secretary of NILOWV, Barr V. N Osuhor, our attention was drawn to a write up that listed our great association as one of the CSOs fighting to secure the mandate of Dr Peter Mbah who was elected under the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“For the avoidance of doubt I wish to stress that NILOWV is a Civic Organization that is non Partisan, Non Religious, non Sectarian, and non tribal. Our interest is the empowerment of women in all spheres of life – the politician, the teacher, the corporate staff etc.
The League of Women Voters of Nigeria was founded following the League of Women Voters of America (LWVUS) with the following Mission and Vision:
1) Our Mission Statement -Empowering Voters, Defending Democracy.
2) Vision Statement: – We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate. And
3) Finally it is necessary to state that we believe in the Power of WOMEN to create a more Perfect Democracy.
It is a registered NGO/ CSO and our aim is to empower Nigerian women Economically and Politically for National Development.
Our factor is Women Our activities are ongoing and continuous. In addition to normal Executives both at National and State levels, the League is run by Standing Committees which include: Human Rights, Voters Rights, Healthcare, Security, The Environment, Social and Economic Justice, Affirmative Action, Education of the Girl Child, Justice and Legal, Women Welfare, Publicity and Publications, Mobilization, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Women Electoral Support. Apart from these Standing Committees, we operate with Adhoc committees whenever necessary to support the mobilization of other groups on any issues about women.
The League will stand with Nigerian women any day – visit our website at nilowv.org. We are currently carrying out advocacy for Voters registration and collection of PVCs. Join us to mobilize women to vote for the right leaders who will take women’s issues seriously, and vote for our female candidates. We are also currently setting up a powerful Committee to Launch a Women Trust Fund, the Fund will be for be used for:
1) Support for Female Aspirants and Candidates for election;
2) Grants for education of the indigent ‘Girl child’ and
3) Any other women problem as the Committee may advise and work out. The Committee will work out all the modalities.
The Committee is made up of very distinguished Nigerian Women who believe in Women and want to work for Women.
We are anxious to recruit MORE Principals of schools, teachers, Professionals, Technocrats, Entrepreneurs, Market leaders and Women in public life.
Thus with the above responsibilities saddled on the Secretariat (NILOWV) members nation wide, we cannot be seen to be for or against any candidate(except females). We therefore disassociate ourselves from that write up. The Public Should please take note.
