The Nigeria Police Force has opened a formal investigation into the airport altercation involving veteran musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1. The probe follows a petition from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) accusing him of unruly conduct that disrupted the safe operation of an aircraft at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025.
In a statement issued on August 12, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the Airport Command to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter. The investigation seeks to uncover the facts surrounding the incident and ensure justice is duly served.

The Police further reassured the public of their commitment to securing Nigeria’s aviation sector and promised to strengthen collaboration with regulatory bodies to enforce safety regulations rigorously.
The announcement has reignited debates over perceived inconsistencies in the enforcement of justice. Prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former presidential candidate Peter Obi have expressed concern over what they describe as “selective justice.” Both leaders pointed to the swift prosecution of Comfort Emmanson in the Ibom Air certificate controversy, contrasting it with the delayed police action in Kwam 1’s case.
Atiku Abubakar called for impartial application of the law, emphasizing that no individual should receive preferential treatment. Peter Obi also stressed the need for equal treatment before the law to maintain public trust in Nigeria’s justice system.
This case underscores the intense public scrutiny on law enforcement agencies to act transparently and fairly, especially in high-profile incidents. As the police investigation progresses, Nigerians are watching closely, hoping for a resolution that upholds justice and the rule of law.
