It was a moment of honour, celebration and emotional reflection at the glamorous 2026 Press Week and Awards Ceremony held at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Abuja as veteran journalist, publisher, author and media entrepreneur, Uloma Peace Okorie, was presented with the Veteran Excellence Award in recognition of her remarkable contributions to journalism, security reporting, media development and national discourse in Nigeria.

The award was presented during the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council Press Week themed “2027 Election: Defending Democracy in the Era of Disinformation,” which attracted journalists, media executives, security experts, political stakeholders and distinguished personalities from across the country.
The management and staff of True Verdict Communications LTD joined family members, friends, associates and well-wishers in celebrating the accomplished journalist whose career has spanned more than two decades of resilience, courage and commitment to truth.
Born on April 27 in Abia State, Uloma Peace Okorie began her journalism career in 1998 after obtaining both her Diploma and Higher Diploma certificates from the prestigious International Institute of Journalism, Abuja.
With passion and determination, she quickly established herself within Nigeria’s media industry, working with notable publications including Post Express Newspaper, Reporter Newspaper and Gong Newspaper, where she earned recognition for her professionalism, investigative strength and dedication to ethical journalism.
In 2005, she founded Newsxtra Magazine, a security-focused publication dedicated to reporting the activities of the Nigeria Police Force and other security institutions in the country.
Through the platform, she became one of the few female journalists in Nigeria to specialize extensively in security reporting, covering the tenures and activities of several former and serving Inspectors-General of Police.
Her extensive security coverage has featured prominent IGPs including Sunday Ehindero, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Hafiz Ringim, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, Suleiman Abba, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, Mohammed Adamu, Usman Alkali Baba , Kayode Egbetokun and the current IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Apart from her work in security journalism, Okorie has continued to contribute to the growth of several media platforms, including True Verdict Communications LTD, where her experience and journalistic insight continue to inspire younger journalists and media practitioners.
Beyond journalism, she is also a prolific author and mentor. Her published books address issues relating to culture, relationships, mentorship, spirituality and personal development.
Some of her published works include I Was Rejected By My Mom Due To Tradition, The Art of Mentorship, How to Make a Man Love You Dearly as a Woman, Arch Angel Camael: Angel of Love and Harmony, and Courtship Café, many of which are currently available on Amazon.
Colleagues and admirers at the event described her as a woman of resilience who transformed personal experiences into a source of strength and inspiration for others, especially upcoming female journalists navigating the challenges of the media profession.
Despite the demanding nature of journalism and entrepreneurship, Uloma Peace Okorie has remained committed to family life and is a proud mother of a 20-year-old son, whom she describes as one of her greatest motivations.
Known for her simplicity, energetic personality and bold outlook, the veteran journalist is said to have a special love for spaghetti noodles and the color red — qualities her close associates say reflect her vibrant and fearless spirit.
Presenting the award, organisers commended her consistency, courage and enduring contributions to ethical journalism, security reporting and media advancement in Nigeria.
The ceremony also honoured several outstanding journalists, media executives and notable personalities for their contributions toward strengthening democracy, promoting responsible journalism and advancing national development.
The atmosphere at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja was filled with applause and admiration as colleagues and guests celebrated a woman many described as a symbol of persistence, professionalism and excellence in the Nigerian media industry.
In a goodwill message, the management and team of True Verdict Communications LTD prayed for greater accomplishments, divine protection, long life and continued success for the veteran journalist as she continues to inspire the next generation of media professionals in Nigeria and beyond.
The 2026 NUJ Press Week concluded with renewed calls for ethical journalism, media responsibility and stronger collaboration among journalists in defending democracy and combating misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
